Kandi Burruss tried Ozempic but quit when it didn’t work

I think Ozempic doesn’t work for everyone. Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Kandi Burruss tried the fad weight loss drug after seeing it work for some of her friends. But unfortunately, she did nothing for him.

“I saw so many people trying it and losing weight,” the singer/songwriter said. She added that she knows a “ton” of women who have successfully lost weight with the drug, including former RHOA cast member Marlo Hampton.

“So I was like, ‘OK, I’ll try this,'” Kandi said. “[But] I haven’t lost weight.”

Ozempic simply did not have the desired effect

The Grammy winner confessed to using the drug “last year”. When she wasn’t getting the results she wanted, friends who had used the drug thought “something must be wrong” or that she just needed a “higher dose.” Even Kant’s doctor was confused.

“My doctor said, ‘I don’t know what the problem is, I’m not seeing this in other people,'” she recalled.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Ozempic is an FDA-approved drug originally designed for patients with type II diabetes. The drug “tricks” the brain into thinking you’re not hungry, suppressing appetite and promoting weight loss. Unfortunately, Kandi didn’t see any change in her appetite.

“It didn’t curb my appetite,” she explained. “I know some people say, ‘Oh, I can’t eat.’ Not me! I was having appetizers, a regular meal, and dessert, okay? Nothing stopped me.”

The long list of public figures who have lost weight using Ozempic includes Oprah Winfrey, Kelly Clarkson and Real Housewives of New Jersey stars Dolores Catania and Margaret Josephs.

“When you see that it works for other people and it doesn’t work for you, it makes you depressed,” Kandi shared. “It makes you feel, ‘What’s wrong? Why doesn’t it work for me?’”

The weight gain followed her exit from RHOA

The Bedroom Kandi founder admitted she gained significant weight after leaving RHOA in 2023. “I was eating well, living well,” she said. “I was already 10 kilos over my desired weight at the start of the year. But then when I announced that I wasn’t going to do ‘Apiake’ anymore, I was eating dessert every day, traveling, just living it up.”

“Before I knew it, I was about 170 pounds,” she added. “And it wasn’t cute.”

Since changing her eating habits and switching to another weight loss product, she has started getting results. “I’m feeling good,” she says.

“While I’m on tour,” she said, “I’m going to make the most of the gyms in the hotels … I’m going to work out so many days a week, I’m going to stick to the right diet and … I’m going to watch how she goes. So I’m excited. Pray I can stick to it!”

“For years I felt like I was really thin and thin,” the Xscape singer concluded. “It’s been a minute and I’d like to see myself back to her, to my best self.”

All episodes of Real Housewives of Atlanta are now streaming on Peacock.
