Aaron Carter suffered from darker demons than fans knew, with his twin sister, Angel, shedding more light on the issues that contributed to his death.
The late singer’s brother recently revealed that her brother’s drug problems began at a young age, a struggle that worsened with their parents’ divorce. She also took out a restraining order against him when he started having disturbing thoughts.
Aaron Carter rose to fame as a teen idol in the late 1990s; however, his career dwindled amid his addictions until his accidental drug-related death.
Aaron Carter’s twin sister ‘had to protect him from himself’
A video of Angel’s recent appearance on the Squeeze podcast was shared on YouTube, capturing her emotional recollections of Aaron’s mental health struggles and addictions. She recalled her concern for his well-being heightened in the summer of 2019.
At the time, Aaron allegedly suffered from bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, with his condition leading to a psychotic episode where he told Angel about his thoughts of killing babies and how he had amassed several guns within a week.
angel, who was a new mother of daughter Harper Noelle Conrad, wasted no time IN joining forces with her older brother, Nick, to stop Aaron from doing the unthinkable. The pair imposed a restraining order against him, in which case the court confiscated the deceased singer’s weapons.
“I had to protect him from myself,” Angel tearfully recalled, blaming her brother’s downfall on the years he was allegedly “exploited and used” by those around him since his career began at age 9.
Angel Carter tried to save Aaron from his addictions
One person’s mother devoted years of her life to saving her twin brother from his addictions; however, she claimed that Aaron often ignored her attempts to help her. “I couldn’t save him. It wasn’t my responsibility to save him, but I tried,” she lamented.
Seeing what sparked Aaron’s problems, Angel explained that her brother was the “breadwinner” of their family. However, this responsibility was a significant burden for a child to face, and he began experimenting with marijuana at the age of 12.
Things took a turn for the worse when their parents divorced in 2003, with Aaron blaming himself for the split, with Angel noting: “He thought success destroyed the family.” Unfortunately, the aftermath saw the singer delving into “hard” drugs.
“He was experimenting with ecstasy and throwing cans of powder,” Angel recalled, noting that she didn’t know Aaron had continued “bad things” in his 20s until years later.
Aaron’s twin It was prepared For His death
During the interview, Angel dropped a shocking bombshell about her twin brother’s death. She confessed that she prepared for Aaron’s final moments, noting that because her focus was on him, she never expected her sister, Leslie, to die of an overdose in 2012.
“What’s so interesting about Leslie’s death – she died when I was 23 – her death completely blindsided me. I didn’t see it coming,” Angel confessed, adding:
“When she died, I was already in therapy preparing for Aaron’s death. I thought he was going to die. I was afraid of it my whole 20s. I knew it that day. was going for it come and I think he also knew this”.
Angel claims her family has a “generational dysfunction issue”
it it’s not the first time Angel has dealt with Aaron’s death as The Blast reported that she opened up about the tragic loss of her siblings in a candid interview. During an appearance on CBS Mornings in April, the 36-year-old said:
“Of course there is a problem of generational dysfunction here that comes along with it, but in terms of growth, there was a time when we were a really close family. There was a lot of love. But there was a lot of chaos going on at the same time.”
Angel claimed the Carter heads failed to provide their children with stability, claiming, “My parents were just fighting all the time — just dysfunction at home. No boundaries. No stability. No one to talk to.”
Aaron Carter’s twin says their problems stemmed from fame
According to Angel, the dynamic at home worsened when her older brother found fame as a member of the singing group Backstreet Boys. Aaron followed in his footsteps to become a teenage pop singer, changing the lives of the Carter clan.
“We were a family that had no money. We were from upstate New York. My parents were poor. And they had never seen anything like this before,” Angel recalled, adding:
“After the money started coming in, they only changed the dynamic because money became the driving force.”
So far, three Carter siblings have died from drug-related incidents. Leslie died of an overdose, followed by Aaron, due to the effects of alprazolam and difluoroethane.
Most recently, Bobbi Jean passed away from intoxication due to the combined effects of fentanyl and methamphetamine in 2023.
